When Anthony Hopkins is the Guest Speaker…

Yes, I do believe it will be a night to remember!

If you are me, you R.S.V.P immediately adding a plus one, buy a new dress and make plans to attend. So incredible to be invited; it feels like a lifetime ago that I graduated from Baron Brown Studio in Santa Monica California. It was summer-time about 12 years ago now and Christian Bale was the guest speaker, it was so inspirational.

Then life happens and you don’t get to work on your acting career with the exception of a few Reality Shows in LA and DK and the filming of the Birth of my Son Winston for the OWN Network in 2009… I think the most powerful realization I have had since that graduation day, is that I am an Artist. To think I didn’t know that even while attending acting school? I was under the impression that to be an Artist one had to be able to draw… what a limiting thought, but it had been told to me by others when my drawings were different and less detailed than theirs and I made the mistake as a child to believe them. It really wasn’t until I was selling Fine Art for Martin Lawrence Galleries and actually a bit after I had quit the South Coast Plaza location to return home to Canada that I realized it… There were so many days of people asking, are you an Artist? As I toured them around the beautiful gallery, selling Picasso, Chagall, Dali, Murakami and more and yet denying my own true nature. I would answer no and feel an ache inside…

It takes such courage to be an Artist, to be critiqued constantly by others who somehow make themselves Art Experts and yet most haven’t even studied or been submerged into the culture. When I started LAG, I knew I wanted to help local Artists in my hometown and that I did and am continuing to do. In fact LAG is on a mission to Support Living Artists… it’s been the journey and courage to say; I am an Artist that is leading my assistance of other Artists. Never let anyone else tell you, who you are. You are an Artist if you are born one and when you realize you are.

Now to do a bit more prep for the big event… yes, I am excited and it will be a night to remember!

PS. my children asked why they can’t join me… I said “your Mama Yogi Bear needs a a playdate too sometimes.”

May I share…

a quote from a book I am currently reading,

“One way to understand mediation practices is that they help us integrate and develop the dynamic synergy of both our active or creative mind skills, and or quiet or receptive mind skills. Insights and inspirations emerge first as subtle, formless impressions, gossamer-like and transparent-so elusive that they are easily ignored. If our “quiet mind skills” are keen enough, however, even the subtlest emerging insights will be noticed and drawn into awareness. Once these impressions are brought onto the screen of concious awareness, our “active mind skills” come into play, shaping and developing them into thoughts, images and intentions that can be communicated to others and guide our action and work in the world.”

Mama and Me

Now that I am a mom of 3 it’s not that time flies, it actually EVAPORATES!

Finding balance as a Mother is not easy, the challenges set forth by adding that “bundle of joy” to our lives as amazing as it is….can knock us off our feet. The lack of sleep, lack of time alone, juggling the household chores, coordinating the activities, school and play dates… never-mind trying to maintain a career or simply pre-motherhood relationships, the never ending demands upon us seem only to increase and that is why, excuse me these too are the reasons why I swear by yoga. Not only does it keep me balanced emotionally but the healing process and pure act of countering all the damage a busy life can create.

Those of you who have been following my journey for a while, already know I have been dedicated to Yoga 6 days a week since Feb. 2014. Making this my fourth year practicing daily to maintain sanity, get & stay balanced, tone physically and over all “Feel Better!” It’s working beautifully! My baby is now 3.5months old and I can tell you, what a difference doing yoga during pregnancy made and then post delivery as soon as the required 8 weeks of initial postpartum healing was complete, on the mat again I was. It’s awesome to hear others notice, “Danica, you look great, didn’t you just have a baby!?!” Yes, yes I did….but it’s not only about the physical results, actually it’s not about the noticeable results at all… it’s all about the process.

Self-Help is just that, you helping yourself and absolutely required in all transitions and transformations but everyone needs a little coaching. Support and education along the way. My Guru is Kavita Maharaj of Reddoor Yoga and even though I too teach, I must constantly learn. This past January 14th I received my certification in Postnatal & Mama and Me Yoga, it’s part of the 500 hour certification course but I choose to take it early to start now specializing on an area that I am very familiar with; Motherhood. I think the hell I went through being laid off for taking Maternity leave while working for the Astani Brothers at Astani Enterprises and HPG Management in Beverly Hills during my first pregnancy and Birth of daughter Alicia was specifically to bring me to this very point.
